Smart Padlock

Having your package simply placed on the porch places you at risk of being a victim to package theft.

While it can be useful to have a delivery lockbox placed on the porch, this does not completely prevent porch pirates from stealing your package – they can simply open up the box and remove the package.

While standard locks can help to add a level of security, thieves are getting smarter by the day and have several techniques that they tend to use to open a standard lock.

This is where a smart box lock comes in, providing you with a way to lock that package lockbox without giving criminals a way to unlock the pad using traditional methods, such as lock picking.

Thanks to advancements in the technology sector, there are now many different smart padlocks on the market that you can take advantage of – each with a set of unique features that will ultimately put the security of your package as the main priority.

Some of the smart padlocks on the market offer features such as a scan lock, where certain objects, such as a shipping label or a finger, need to be scanned.

Without the appropriate object scanned, it would be impossible for anyone to unlock the security device and access your delivery box.

While scanning features are embedded into some of these locks, others require you to open up the lock from your mobile device – in these cases, the courier company would advise you on the delivery and once the delivery guy is standing on your porch, you simply click a button on your smartphone (from a remote location) to unlock the smart padlock and give the courier guy access to the package delivery lock box.

Since there are so many options out there already, it can sometimes be difficult to know which one to opt for.

The best way to make sure you buy the right smart padlock is to first take your own preferences and needs into account.

Consider what you prefer – to have a padlock with a built-in scanner that would scan a shipping label, or perhaps one with a fingerprint scanner.

You might rather prefer an option where the lock can only be unlocked through your own command, perhaps through the use of a companion application on your smartphone.

You should also take your budget into account – the prices of these locks can vary a lot. Be ready to pay at least about $100 to get your hands on a padlock, but, at the same time, know that some of these locks can cost much more.

Another fact that should be taken into account is whether or not you have a wireless network available at home.

Some of the smart lock systems on the market requires access to a Wi-Fi network – if you do not have such a feature at home, then you will have to look at alternative options that do not require an active connection to a wireless network to function.
